Cyber.bica was the first Cyber.cafe opening in Portugal.

We open the doors for the 1st time on November 2nd 1995 in a 70 square meter place in an old tradicional Lisbon area - Chiado.
On that day we had 5 Internet 486DX2 66Mhz based computers connected to Internet with simple 28.8kbps modems. :)

We were also trying a new Operative System by Microsoft®, called Windows95®....

Since that day we've been trying to be a phisic and virtual place where you can feel good while connected to Internet and at the same time show that Internet would be the greatest working tool and also a leisure instrument.

As time goes went by (...) Cyber.bica become a place where Portuguese Cybernauts share their experiences and discoveries.
Slowly a community, a very special community, was building itself, friends came by and stayed, new friends appeared, eveything was great and exciting on this 'new world'.

Each day the Internet was walking with giant steps, takings us all beyond our dreams and wildest imagination:

  • The WWW browser was (finally) released
  • IRC appeared, forming their multiple and ever growing communities...
  • The search engine was Yahoo and Portuguese Sapo was giving it's first steps.

    On Cyber.bica some pioneer enterprises made their website public presentations and Cyber.bica started it's first activities and tertulias , games championships e games tournements and many other initiatives where we always tried to innovate and bring dinamics to the cyber.cafe, always trying to be faithful to the main objective that lead us to create this ever-project called Cyber.bica .

    In 1997, a year and a half after Cyber.bica opened it's doors we encountered our biggest challenge so far:
    To create a "Tech-Diversion complex" where you could find a new concept of cyber place alowing a pleasant end-of-the-day environment and afterhours cyber diversion with may dinamic microclimates of cyberspace, music, art and entertainment enclosed by the new technologies spirit.

    So Cyber.bica opened a 1400 square meter on one of Lisbon's most famous avenues (Av. 24 de Julho) with 8 Broadband connected computers, Virtual Reality equipmentes, a Dance Floor, wide projection screens, etc.
    This was a big challenge and we were very happy to see the enthusiasm of the public with this concept.
    Nevertheless the market laws had determined a new path to Cyber.bica and after a few months we had to close that place.

    In 1998 and after many requests from friends and others about this business type, Cyber.bica decides to Franchise its brand and know-how.

    At the same time Cyber.bica's dinamism and activities kept on going making 1999 and 2000 the great and most mediatic years to Cyber.bica, with examples as Unplugged's, 25 de Abril Online,  tertulias and sucessfull public presentations of books , websites, etc.


    2002 is now being another challenge to Cyber.bica. We now have wider opening hours, increased number of computers, very fast broadband Internet Connections, Complete meals where you can eat or drink anytime of the day, etc...

    So, now that you know (almost) eveything about us, why not paying us a visit ???
